1. What exactly is the VENTOR®?
The VENTOR® is a premium freestanding outdoor fireplace made of Corten steel, designed and manufactured in the Netherlands. The fireplace combines high-quality materials, an organic design, and an optimized combustion system for powerful, atmospheric, and efficient wood burning.
Thanks to the raised firebox, the fire is at a comfortable viewing height, while the 360° open design ensures that the play of flames remains visible from every angle. The combination of warmth, design, and functionality makes the VENTOR® suitable for both private gardens and terraces at restaurants, hotels, and beach clubs.

2. What is the VENTOR® made of?
The VENTOR® is manufactured from high-quality Corten steel. This steel has been specially developed for long-term outdoor use and forms a natural protective layer under the influence of weather and oxygen.
This oxidation layer protects the underlying steel from further deterioration and gives the fireplace its characteristic warm rust color. This means that painting or treatment is not necessary, and the appearance continues to develop naturally.

3. Why does the VENTOR® produce less smoke than many other outdoor fireplaces?
No wood-burning outdoor fireplace is completely smoke-free. The amount of smoke is determined by four important factors:
• dryness of the wood
• air supply
• chimney draft
• firebox design
A well-designed fireplace provides sufficient oxygen and a powerful natural draft, allowing wood to burn more efficiently. The VENTOR® was developed with an organically shaped firebox, a carefully tuned chimney diameter, and an optimized air supply. In combination with dry hardwood, this results in stable combustion and minimal smoke production.

4. What is the best way to light the VENTOR®?
For the cleanest combustion, we recommend the top-down method (also known as the Swedish method).
First, place the largest logs at the bottom. Place medium-sized logs on top of them crosswise, followed by kindling and a firelighter block on top. Then light the fire from above.
This method produces less smoke, builds up the draft more quickly, burns more efficiently, and creates less ash.

5. What wood is best to use?
Use only dry hardwood with a moisture content of less than 20%. Suitable wood types include oak, beech, and ash.
Wet wood burns less efficiently, produces more smoke, generates less heat, and causes additional pollution in the fireplace and chimney.

6. Why is dry wood so important?
The energy in wet wood is first used to evaporate moisture before the wood can burn. This results in lower temperatures, more smoke, and lower efficiency.
Dry wood, on the other hand, ensures cleaner combustion, more heat, less smoke, and a more beautiful play of flames.

7. Can the VENTOR® stay outside all year round?
Yes. The VENTOR® is designed for permanent outdoor use. Rain, frost, wind, and sun have no negative effect on the Corten steel. On the contrary, exposure to the weather conditions is precisely what develops the material's characteristic appearance.

8. Does Corten steel release rust water at first?
Yes. During the first few months of the natural oxidation process, Corten steel may temporarily release rust water.
Therefore, during this period, it is preferable not to place the fireplace directly on natural stone, light-colored tiles, or wooden terraces without protection. Once the protective patina layer has fully formed, this decreases significantly.

9. Can Corten steel rust through?
No. That is precisely the strength of Corten steel.
The outer oxidation layer protects the steel from further deterioration. With normal use and under normal weather conditions, Corten steel has a very long lifespan.

10. How long does it take for Corten steel to get its final color?
Depending on temperature, humidity, and weather conditions, this usually takes a few weeks to a few months.
During this period, the color gradually changes from steel gray to orange and eventually to a warm dark brown rust color.

11. Why does the VENTOR® have a chimney?
A chimney creates a natural draft. Warm air rises, allowing fresh oxygen to be continuously supplied.
This results in more efficient combustion, a more stable fire, and less smoke production.

12. Why is the fire higher than in many other outdoor fireplaces?
The raised firebox brings the fire closer to eye level.
This allows you to enjoy the play of flames optimally whether sitting or standing, and the heat is also experienced as more pleasant.

16. Does the outside get hot?
Yes. During use, various parts of the fireplace can become very hot.
Therefore, do not touch the fireplace during or immediately after use, and keep children and pets at a safe distance.

17. How do I maintain the VENTOR®?
Maintenance is minimal.
Regularly remove the ash, keep the air supply clear, and remove leaves or debris from the firebox.
Painting or treating the Corten steel is not necessary.

18. Can I place the VENTOR® on a wooden terrace?
The fireplace must always be placed on a flat, stable, and non-combustible surface.
Placement on wood, composite, artificial grass, or other heat-sensitive materials is not recommended due to possible heat damage.

19. Can an outdoor fireplace be placed under a cover? 

No. We advise using the VENTOR® exclusively outdoors.A wood-burning outdoor fireplace produces heat, smoke, and sparks. Under a cover, these can accumulate or cause damage to the structure. For safe operation and optimal draft, we recommend always using the VENTOR® freestanding, with sufficient distance to buildings, covers, and other combustible materials.

20. How much distance should I keep from fences or plants?
Always ensure sufficient free space around the fireplace.
Do not place the fireplace directly next to combustible materials such as wooden fences, bushes, garden furniture, or overhanging branches.

21. How much wood fits inside?
The VENTOR® is suitable for standard firewood and offers sufficient capacity for long-term burning without constantly refilling.

26. How much heat does the VENTOR® emit?
Heat emission depends on the type of wood, the amount of wood, and the weather conditions.

27. Is an outdoor fireplace allowed in the Netherlands?

33. Why is the VENTOR® more expensive than many other outdoor fireplaces?

The VENTOR® was developed as a premium designer outdoor fireplace and is manufactured in the Netherlands. The combination of heavy Corten steel, an organically shaped firebox, the tall chimney, 360° views of the fire, a powerful natural draft, and a robust construction makes it fundamentally different from a simple fire pit or standard patio fireplace.

The VENTOR® is designed for people who, in addition to warmth and atmosphere, also value design, quality, and sustainability.

34. Is the VENTOR® suitable for a small garden?

That depends mainly on the available free space. The firebox has a diameter of approximately 62 cm, but sufficient distance must be kept around the fireplace from combustible materials, plants, facades, and garden furniture.

Due to its height of 220 cm, the VENTOR® is also a clearly present design element in the garden or on the terrace.

35. Can I move the VENTOR®?

Yes. The VENTOR® can be moved by two people. If you want to move the fireplace regularly, the optional VENTOR® Mobility Kit is available.

36. What is the VENTOR® Mobility Kit?

The VENTOR® Mobility Kit consists of four sturdy black swivel casters, two of which have brakes. This allows the outdoor fireplace to be easily moved over a suitable flat surface and then securely placed in position.

The Mobility Kit is ideal for terraces, hospitality venues, events, and situations where the setup changes regularly.

37. Can I mount casters under my existing VENTOR®?

Yes. The VENTOR® Mobility Kit is suitable for the VENTOR® Original and comes complete with the necessary mounting materials.

38. What is the VENTOR® Wind Control?

The VENTOR® Wind Control is a removable front panel that can shield part of the firebox.

This can be pleasant when the wind comes mainly from one direction and gives more control over the airflow around the fire.

39. What is the VENTOR® Wind Shield?

The VENTOR® Wind Shield is a closed shield for one side of the firebox.

It was developed to provide extra protection against wind and to direct more radiant heat to the other side of the fireplace. The shield is removable, so the open 360° fire experience is maintained when the Wind Shield is not needed.

40. Can I use the VENTOR® when it is windy?

A light to moderate wind should not be a problem, but the conditions must always be safe.

In strong winds or very dry conditions, we advise not to use the fireplace. Accessories such as the Wind Control and the Wind Shield can help with wind from a certain direction, but never replace safe use.

41. Is the VENTOR® smoke-free?

No. No wood-burning outdoor fireplace is completely smoke-free.

The design of the VENTOR® is, however, aimed at a powerful natural draft and efficient combustion. With dry wood, the right lighting method, and sufficient air supply, smoke production can be greatly limited.

42. Why does the smoke rise in the VENTOR®?

The combination of the organically shaped firebox, air supply, and tall chimney creates a powerful natural draft.

Warm combustion gases rise and are removed through the chimney, while fresh air is simultaneously supplied towards the fire. This contributes to stable and efficient combustion.

43. Can I use the VENTOR® for cooking or barbecuing?

The VENTOR® Original is primarily designed as an outdoor fireplace and not as a barbecue or cooking appliance.

Therefore, only use the fireplace for what it was designed for, unless a VENTOR® accessory specifically developed for that purpose is used.

44. How much wood should I use?

Start with a limited amount of dry firewood and build the fire up slowly.

An extremely large fire is not necessary to create a beautiful play of flames and pleasant warmth. Never use more wood than can fit safely in the firebox.

45. Can I use pellets, coal, or briquettes?

The VENTOR® was developed for burning dry and untreated firewood.

We therefore advise against using coal, pellets, waste wood, or other fuels.

46. Can I burn treated or painted wood?

No.

Never use painted, treated, glued, or otherwise processed wood. Harmful substances can be released. Use only clean and dry firewood.

47. How do I clean the VENTOR®?

First, let the fireplace cool down completely.

Then remove excess ash and any remaining wood residues. Keep the air supply and firebox free of leaves and debris.

The Corten steel itself does not need to be painted or treated.

48. Do I need to clean the chimney?

With normal use of dry wood, maintenance is limited.

Do check the chimney periodically for soot, debris, or any blockages, and clean it when necessary.

49. Can I cover the VENTOR®?

That is not necessary for the Corten steel. The VENTOR® is precisely designed to stay outside all year round.

If you do want to cover the fire pit, make sure there is sufficient ventilation and never cover it while it is still hot.

50. Will my VENTOR® arrive with its final rust colour?

Not always. Corten steel develops its characteristic patina layer under the influence of oxygen and moisture.

The colour may therefore be lighter or less even upon delivery than that of a fully rusted fire pit. Outdoors, the distinctive warm rust colour will continue to develop naturally.

51. Is every VENTOR® the same colour?

No. Corten steel is a naturally ageing material.

As a result, the colour, texture and patina formation may vary slightly from one fire pit to another. This is part of the material's character and makes every VENTOR® slightly unique.

52. Can rust water cause stains?

Yes. Especially during the initial phase of the oxidation process, rust water can cause stains on, for example, light-coloured paving, wood and natural stone.

Keep this in mind when choosing the location for the fire pit.

53. Can I view the VENTOR® somewhere?

Yes. VENTOR® works with selected dealers and locations where the fire pit can be viewed.

Yes. The VENTOR® is delivered fully assembled and ready to use. You do not need to assemble the outdoor fire pit yourself after receiving it.

Are you ordering the optional VENTOR® Mobility Kit? The wheels will be delivered separately and you will need to attach them to the fire pit yourself. The Mobility Kit is delivered complete with the necessary mounting materials and is easy to assemble.

58. Can one person move the VENTOR®?

Due to its weight and size, we do not recommend this.

It is best to move the fire pit with at least two people or use the VENTOR® Mobility Kit when the ground and situation are suitable.

59. Is the VENTOR® suitable for hospitality venues?

68. In what colour is the VENTOR® available?

The VENTOR® Original is made of Corten steel.

Under the influence of the elements, the material naturally develops its characteristic warm rust-brown colour.

69. Can I place the VENTOR® against a wall?

We recommend placing the VENTOR® freely and keeping sufficient distance from facades, walls, flammable materials and other objects.

When determining the position, also take into account heat, smoke ventilation, wind direction and potential discolouration.

70. What should I do if there is a lot of smoke?

First, check whether the wood is dry enough and whether the air supply and chimney are clear.

Do not use too much wood at once and make sure the fire is hot enough. Wet wood and a smouldering fire are common causes of excessive smoke.

71. What should I do if the wind changes and smoke comes towards me?

Wind affects every outdoor fire pit.

Check whether the fire pit is free-standing and has sufficient draft. If necessary, the position of the Wind Control or Wind Shield can be adjusted to suit the wind direction.

In strong or unfavourable wind, stopping the fire is the safest option.

72. How do I extinguish the VENTOR®?

It is best to let the wood burn out under supervision and not add any more wood.

Keep watch until the fire has completely died down. Do not use water unnecessarily on a very hot fire pit, as large temperature differences can damage the material.

73. Can I leave the VENTOR® burning unattended?

No.

Never leave an outdoor fire pit burning unattended and always keep children and pets at a safe distance.

74. Can I use the VENTOR® during a fire ban or in extreme drought?

Always check the current local conditions, regulations and advice.

In the event of a fire ban, extreme drought, strong wind or a local ban, we advise against using the VENTOR®.
